Data Transparency Statement
Effective Date: January 22, 2026
Stormplotter is committed to transparency in how data is sourced, used, and presented within our platform. This Data Transparency Statement explains the origin, handling, and limitations of the data displayed through our services.
1. Data Sources
Stormplotter retrieves weather and climatological data directly from publicly available datasets provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and its affiliated data services.
NOAA is a United States government agency responsible for collecting, maintaining, and publishing meteorological and environmental data. Stormplotter does not generate original weather data.
2. Data Handling and Processing
Weather data obtained from NOAA is:
- Retrieved programmatically based on user-supplied geographic inputs (such as an address or location),
- Displayed in graphical, tabular, or mapped formats for visualization purposes, and
- Presented without alteration, manipulation, normalization, or reinterpretation of the underlying numerical values.
Stormplotter may perform technical operations such as geolocation matching, time-range filtering, or formatting necessary to visualize the data, but these operations do not modify the source data itself.
3. Data Accuracy and Reliability
Stormplotter does not independently verify, correct, or supplement NOAA data. As such:
- Data accuracy, completeness, and availability are dependent on NOAA’s systems and publications.
- Stormplotter makes no representations or warranties regarding the accuracy, timeliness, or suitability of the data for any specific purpose.
Users acknowledge that weather data may be subject to revisions, reporting limitations, or gaps inherent to observational and modeling systems.
4. Intended Use and Limitations
Data displayed by Stormplotter is provided for informational and analytical purposes only. It is not intended to replace:
- Professional meteorological analysis,
- Engineering evaluations,
- Insurance determinations,
- Legal evidence, or
- Regulatory or safety-critical decision-making.
Users are responsible for determining whether Stormplotter data is appropriate for their intended use.
5. Relationship to Privacy Policy and Terms
Stormplotter’s handling of personal information, including location inputs and account data, is governed by its Privacy Policy.
Use of the platform and its services is governed by the Terms and Conditions.
This Data Transparency Statement supplements, but does not replace, those documents.
6. Third-Party Data Disclaimer
Stormplotter is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by NOAA. NOAA retains ownership of its data and may change data availability, formats, or access policies at any time without notice.
7. Changes to This Statement
This Data Transparency Statement may be updated periodically to reflect changes in data sources, technical processes, or legal requirements. The effective date will be updated accordingly.
